Recently, the Tamilnadu Government has permitted the conversion of sugar cards to rice cards. The process of card conversion has started from 5th December onwards and will continue till 20th December 2020. In the recent interaction with media, the Tamilnadu Food minister R. Kamaraj told that due to the requirement of Card holders, the CM issued the order to provide the facility to convert Sugar option cards to Rice option cards.

As told before, due to huge demand, the concerned department has started a 16 day drive to convert cards online. The plus point for the Card holders is that it is an online process and the application can be submitted within few minutes.
Eligibility Criteria for Conversion
- The Applicant must be a valid Sugar Card Holder
- The Applicant must be registered on TNPDS Portal
- The Registered mobile number with TNPDS portal should be available for OTP

Interested and eligible applicants can apply till 20th December 2020. The process was already started from 5th December. So, if you want to covert your sugar card to rice card online, you must follow the process given in the article. Let's not waste the time and get started right away.
TNPDS Tamilnadu Sugar Card to Rice Card Change, Apply Online to Convert
Let's understand the complete process step by step:
- First of all, visit the official TNPDS Portal
- Once there, You need to scroll down a little. You will see an option that says "Convert your Card"
- Use that option to proceed
- Now, you will be redirected to another page where you need to Login into your TNPDS Account to proceed
- If you are already registered, Enter your mobile number in the space provided and enter the captcha code. Then, you need to hit the "Submit" button
Note : If you are not a registered user, You must register yourself first before applying for sugar card to rice card.
- Once you hit the submit button, you will get an OTP on your registered mobile number
- Enter the received OTP and proceed. Once you have entered the correct OTP, you will be taken to the "Dashboard" where you could see all the available online services. In this particular article, we are only focusing on sugar option card to rice option card conversion, so we will proceed accordingly.
The dashboard looks like this:
- Use the conversion option given on the left hand side
- After this, you need to click on "+" sign (as given below)
- This opens another page, where you can see your details. You need to select the conversion option given at the end
- Once you select this, additional options appear underneath. As you want to change sugar card to rice card, make sure you select rice card in the second option
- After the selection, your NFSA category will be automatically filled
- Now accept the disclaimer and hit the enter button to submit your application
- Once your application is submitted, you will see an acknowledgement on the screen with the reference number
- Note down or save the the online application reference number.
How to Check Status of Tamilnadu Sugar Card to Rice Card Change Application
The process of checking card conversion status is as follows:
- Go to the TNPDS Login Page and Login by Providing registered mobile number & OTP
- Once logged in, you will be taken to dashboard from where you can utilize the facility of checking the TNPDS Card Change Status.
